Very often, the documents provided during the discovery phase of litigation have other documents attached to them. For example, when an individual’s e-mail files are collected, processed and hosted for review, there are inevitably items in the sent items and inbox folders which have other files attached to them. These attachments must be processed and hosted as well, and it is critically important that the reviewing attorney examine both the original document and the attached files in context – a memo that seems meaningless on its own could be highly probative in light of the recipient list for the e-mail it was attached to.
